USVs

USV Mission Planning and Control:  There is a clear need for a flexible Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) capability, and TSI is developing an Unmanned Planning and Augmented Reality System (U-PEARS) to meet this need.  Autonomous vehicles must be able to transition from remote control to autonomous operations and back to complete all evolutions required of an USV (launch, transit, autonomous mission, and recovery).

U-PEARS is being developed to provide a seamless transition between manned, remote, and autonomous operations.  U-PEARS will provide the USV operator with a fully capable ARVCOP display, just as found in a manned surface craft, but available remotely.  ARVCOP integrates all bridge systems into a single, intuitively understood display; U-PEARS provides this display at the remote site, thus enabling the operator  to proceed as if he were on the craft.  U-PEARS also enables hand-off of craft control to autonomy modules in a controlled manner, thus enabling hybrid operations that seamlessly transition from human-in-the-loop to fully autonomous, and back.  Finally, U-PEARS is being designed to support optionally manned craft, where the crat has all the benefits of ARVCOP present for manned operations… with configuration for remote control operations possible with a simple flip of a switch.
